Brightkins™ Bark Brain Game Treat Puzzle
Pets will find their way to mental stimulation with this puzzle. Drop treats into the 8 compartments and watch as your canine detective uses his paws and snout to move the puzzle pieces to find the treats hidden inside. Developed by a certified professional dog trainer, this boredom-fighting puzzle increases your dog's mental stimulation and can help reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. It also serves as a slow feeder/slow bowl and motivates fast eaters to take their time and avoid stomach upset.
The non-slip design helps keep this treat puzzle stable during use and can be cleaned with warm, soapy water.
Please note: This is not a chew toy. Adult supervision is required.
Dimensions: length 25 cm, height 4 cm
INSTRUCTIONS
Introduction to the puzzle:
- Insert the treats into the puzzle, making sure some are in the treat compartments and some are directly on the surface of the puzzle.
- Place the puzzle on the floor like a regular dog bowl and tell your dog: "Yours!"/ "Look!"
- Wait until the dog has completely completed this step.
- This step will ensure that your dog feels comfortable eating from the puzzle. You will probably repeat this step once or twice. For some dogs, you can skip this step altogether!
Next steps:
- Slide the cubes so that you only cover a few treats. To make the level even harder, hide the treats in the compartments and move the cubes around to cover all the treats.
- The fewer treats you hide, the harder it will be to find them. If you are only hiding one or two treats, put them under different pieces of cubes each time.
- Watch how your dog solves the puzzle - everyone has their own style. Does he use his snout, his paws or a combination of both? Does he sniff and explore cautiously, or does he jump right in?
Extra challenge:
- Don't just hide the treats in the compartments - hide the puzzle itself! To introduce this game, encourage your dog to sit and stay put. Let him watch as you take the puzzle out of sight just around the corner, or partially cover the puzzle with a towel or box.
- Say, "Look!" and reward the dog for waiting patiently.
- If your dog can't stay, you can use a pet gate or ask someone to hold the dog's leash while you hide the puzzle.
- After a few easy repetitions, you can start actually hiding the puzzle while your dog is in another room. Say "Look!" and then let him sniff out the treat puzzle.
No help is needed:
- Dogs rely on us for many things. Because of this, your dog may naturally seek help when something is difficult. If you give him help, he will very quickly learn to expect it, which in this case may mean that he will not improve at solving the puzzle. Instead of helping your dog solve the puzzle, adjust the difficulty with an easier level.
Bonus Activity:
- Slow Feeder/Slow Bowl - Fill the compartments with regular dog food to make feeding more varied.
